Where to Find Online Business Management (OBM) Clients

November 26, 20245 min read

Are you struggling to find high-quality clients for your Online Business Management (OBM) services? You’re not alone! This is the first thing we hunt for when trying to establish our online business management role. In this blog, I'll provide you with five proven ways to help you discover how to find potential clients with a few bonus tips to make your search more effective. You can watch the video above or if you prefer to read, go ahead and continue on.

Let me first set the record straight...

Your clients are not going to come to you wrapped in a stork, nor will they come banging on your virtual doors. You need to be ready to put in the work to find these clients. When I first started, I was squeezing through every virtual door I could find. It wasn’t easy, but with persistence and the right strategies, I built a waitlist of clients. The key is to implement the steps I’m about to share and actively seek out those clients. You need to put yourself out there!

Spot 1: Indeed.com

One of the first places you might want to look for OBM roles is Indeed.com (I know I know) you may have though this one was just for the people looking for corporate jobs - but its not. CEOs post positions for this role all the time for their business.

Now in complete transparency, this is where I'll need for you to put your critical thinking skills to use. Many job descriptions don’t explicitly mention “Online Business Manager,” so pay close attention to the responsibilities listed. Often, the roles and responsibilities you’re qualified for might be labeled differently.

For example, you might find terms like operations management, documentation and SOP creation, CRM management, data reporting, funnel management etc. These are all areas where your skills could shine. However, beware of descriptions that blend full-time roles with OBM responsibilities, such as social media management and content creation. Remember, an OBM manages systems and teams, not the nitty-gritty of content creation.

Look for job descriptions that focus on project management, company organization, and team management. These roles respect the strategic nature of an OBM and will set you up for success.

Spot 2: Community Groups

Community groups are huge when it comes to finding clients for the OBM role. Think Facebook Group, Skool Groups, Circle Groups and more! But these are the top 3.

You might think Facebook is outdated, but they’re still very much alive and buzzing with potential clients. Join groups that align with your ideal clients. By participating in discussions, answering questions, and providing valuable insights, you can position yourself as an expert in your field.

For instance, if you know your ideal clients are using specific platforms like Showit, join related Facebook groups. Share your knowledge about how to use these platforms effectively. This not only builds your credibility but also attracts clients who need your services.

💡Pro Tip: Be a resource - not a lurker when it comes to community groups. The more helpful you are within the communities and provide tips and insight. The more you build authority and show others you're "that girl (or guy)!"

Spot 3: Social Media

This tip isn’t about a specific location but rather a strategy—let your clients find you through your content. Whether it’s on LinkedIn, Instagram, or your blog, your content should speak directly to your ideal clients. As one of my clients always says, “If you don’t market your business, you don’t deserve to have one.”

Create content that showcases your expertise and the value you bring to potential clients. This could be in the form of blog posts, social media updates, or even videos. The more you share, the more likely clients will find you and recognize the value you offer.

Spot 4: Collaboration

Collaboration can be a powerful way to expand your reach and find new clients. Partner with colleagues or other professionals in your industry. This could involve going live on social media, guesting on a podcast, or collaborating on a project. By joining forces with others, you expose yourself to their audience, which can lead to new clients discovering your services.

Consider collaborating with marketing specialists, financial advisors, or other OBMs. Together, you can create content that showcases both of your expertise, attracting clients who may not have known about you otherwise.

Spot 5: Referrals

Last but not least, let’s talk about referrals. Referrals can be a goldmine for finding new clients, but knowing how to ask for them is crucial. When reaching out for referrals, be specific about the services you offer. Here’s a simple template you can use:

“Hi [Name], I hope all is well! I wanted to reach out because I’m currently open to taking a few new clients for my online business management services. If you happen to know any business owners who could benefit from my services, I’d be grateful if you could pass along my information or connect us directly. Thank you so much for thinking of me!”

Make it easy for your contacts to refer you by providing them with a case study or a testimonial page. This way, they can easily share your work with potential clients.
